Whether you recently went platinum, golden or honey, it takes some work to get and maintain healthy, vibrant blonde hair.
Our experts agree: The Golden Rule when going blonde is to build up to a lighter color over time to avoid damage. Then, once you’ve achieved your desired lightness, keep hair light, bright and beautiful with the proper products and these hair care tips:
Choose the right shampoo and conditioner:
We recommend Paul Mitchell™ Forever Blonde® Shampoo and Forever Blonde® Conditioner that are designed specifically for maintaining and protecting your blonde color. To avoid brassiness in your hair’s blonde, white or silver tones, use purple-tinted products once or twice a week. Our Paul Mitchell® Platinum Blonde line is formulated with a violet tint to help cool unwanted warmth, while softening strands and adding shine to natural and color-treated blonde hair.
Keep hair hydrated:
If you’re not a natural blonde, it generally means your hair is damaged and extremely thirsty. Nourish it daily with a leave in-treatment. Our Forever Blonde® Dramatic Repair® repairs and seals the hair cuticle with a moisturizing blend of KerActive protein, safflower oleosomes and macadamia nut oil.
Protect it from heat:
Hot tools are especially threatening to color-treated blonde hair. Minimize the damage with heat-protection, found in our Neuro® line.
Shield hair from the sun:
Hats and scarves are the best immediate defense, but if hair is going to be in direct sunlight, use products with UV filters. One to try: Color Protect® Locking Spray.
Keep it safe from water:
Take a dip with confidence. Apply your favorite conditioner before entering a pool or the ocean to create a barrier between your hair and the salt water or chlorine. After you come out of the water, rinse your hair as soon as possible to get rid of residue. If you swim regularly and notice a buildup or a greenish tinge, use a clarifying shampoo (like Shampoo Three®) to remove it.
Make your color last:
Refresh your color in-between color services with two options: In-salon with a gloss treatment at your local Paul Mitchell® salon, or at-home with Color Craft™—a customizable color conditioning system that your stylist mixes for you.
